Two Page Spread

Hey everyone!

I am now in the final stages of my magazine and I just finished creating my two page spread. I always had in mind to write my article about fitness, and how to fit working out into your daily routine. The workout was demonstrated my model, Hailey. I came up with the moves myself because I have many workouts from my background knowledge and previous experience. I love going to the gym and I thought I would incorporate my fast workout into the article. I chose to put a picture of Hailey planking on the top of the first page of the spread because I wanted readers to have a visual. My fonts were the same I used on my cover because I wanted the magazine to look similar throughout all the pages. My article was written by me and I just wanted it to relate to readers, and I thought by sharing the struggle of busy schedules would draw people to read more. As I began adding the pictures on the second page, I realized the background was way too plain, so I added a pink backdrop to give it some pop. I am so happy with my two page spread, and you can view it in my next post where I attach the entire magazine!

Stayed tuned!

Table of Contents

Welcome back to my blog!
I am really happy to say that creating my table contents has been very easy! I realized that canva.com had magazine templates and I found a perfect table of contents template that suited exactly what I had in mind. I used the same fonts and color pink that I used on the cover page and I was able to use another image of my model, Hailey. My goal was to have the magazine look uniformed. Although I had no problems with making the table of contents, my partner Brooke wasn't so lucky. She had to redo her's because ours ended up being very different. She ended up changing it with no problem, and I think its safe to say that were are very happy with it and won't be changing it anymore! I am so excited with my magazine and only have my article left to write! I will be doing that first thing tomorrow. I will post a picture of my table of contents below!
Be back soon to share more updates!

The Ad

I am back and have some great news!

I created another page in my magazine! So.... As you turn the cover page, you see the wonderful advertisement I made! The picture I used was from our photoshoot, but it was Brooke's model. We decided to make our advertisements using each other's models to switch things up and so the reader won't have to see the same face over and over again. In reality, magazines typically have tons of models! I decided to make my advertisement about a store called the "Carli Shop." I came up with that name because the model name is Carli and that was the first thing that came into my mind and I just went with my gut! After I had the name of the shop I was planning on advertising, I began looking at all the different options of fonts. I actually decided right away while scrolling through the fonts on Canva that I wanted to use the same one I did for the title on my cover. I tested it out, and it looked amazing! I wanted the font to be bold to get the readers attention to look at the product and google the site. Also, I used a bight purple font color to draw attention to the page. I will post a picture of the advertisement below! I am going to get my table contents started and I will be back soon to share it with you guys!
Until next time!

Set backs

Good afternoon!
As you have read in my past blogs, my process in creating my magazine has gone very smoothly but I have encountered an issue this week. So, Brooke had made her cover at the same time as I was making mine and we had very bad communication. I made a very different cover that had bright colors and bold fonts, and hers was very simple (they were polar opposites). I really liked her cover so I decided to totally redo my cover, which allowed our magazines to be more uniformed. Although I had to redo my cover and spend more time in the design process, I am really pleased with the outcome. I am so excited to share it with you guys...

So as you see our covers are very similar, mine is on the left and Brooke's is on the right. We both used canva.com to create our covers. We used all the same fonts (which were very simplistic), and our title was very bold because we wanted to catch the readers attention. I decided to make my title and subtitles pink because I wanted the color to match my model's sports bra. We also both made our cover pictures centered and close up. I am excited to finish up this magazine and see the end result!

I am happy to say I am finished with the cover!

Be back soon!

Designing My Cover

Hi!
After hours and hours of figuring out how to use the tools Joomagg has to offer, I created a wonderful magazine cover. I am going to show my cover below and I will explain my thought process behind each detail.
So the Title... I wanted it to be the same color as Hailey's sports bra! I thought the font was simple yet bold, which was exactly what I was going for.
The SLIM STONG & SEXY was an idea I got from my past research. I thought this was a perfect line to grab readers attention and I wanted the strong to be in pink to stand out.
Hailey Yaffa is the "fitness personality" and I am hoping her workout would get people opening the magazine because they are curious after seeing the cover photo. I also wanted her to be in the center of the magazine since the main article will be about her workouts.
The remaining titles are meant to grab readers attention and get them reading. Most health and lifestyle magazines advertising fitness have multiple catch phrases.
This cover is not done and I plan on making changes. I am very happy so far with what I have created and I will keep sharing my changes! See you back soon.

Cover Page

Hey!

So now that I have my pictures all set, I am eager to start designing my magazine cover. I began googling websites that I could use to create magazines, and I came across Joomag.com. My teacher, Mrs. Marchetti, had mentioned this site to the class a couple weeks ago so I checked it out and created an account. I started playing around with all the templates and tools and found the site very difficult to use and it was hard to find a template and I did not see any for my magazine genre. I soon realized I was able to create a one page spread from scratch. There are so many tools to use, I did not know where to begin, I watched the tutorial videos so I could learn how to create my cover.  I am going to keep watching and learning. I will be back soon to share what I created!

Workout Pictures

Hey guys!
As I promised, here is the rest of the pictures from the photoshoot yesterday:

As you can see they came out amazing! I plan on using these pictures for my article. As I said before, I want my article to be about fast workouts that can be done with no gym equipment and do not require any money to be spent. I plan on writing a workout plan and adding descriptions to each photo on how to do the exercise move, for how long, and what the muscle group the exercise is suppose to target. These images captured exactly what I was aiming for, I wanted them to be very simple. When people view demonstrations I feel it should look very clean and simplistic so they can focus on perfecting the movement without injury. I am excited to start researching exercises and how I will layout these pictures on the page. I will be back soon with more ideas!

The Amazing Shots!

Hi everyone!
I am so so so excited to share the amazing shots we took at our photoshoot earlier today! They are all so amazing and I now have no idea which one I will choose for the cover. I am going to show you guys the pictures I took of Hailey, my model, for the cover page. So here they are:

I am so happy with these shots. I think they all came out so great, but I can only choose just one for my cover. After asking Brooke her opinion, we both really liked the second picture. I am leaning towards choosing that shot because the medium shot is a great angle and I think would make a great cover image. During my research for health and lifestyle magazines, most of the covers were medium shots and only a few were full body. Since we have a few great shots, I may want to use one of these shots in my table of contents. Nothing is set in stone yet, but I am really loving the idea of the second shot being my cover page! Come check out my next blog post to see the rest of the shots from the shoot!

Photoshoot

Hi!
Well, our photoshoot went absolutely amazing! It was everything Brooke and I had in mind for our cover, it was as if our ideas came to life. Our two friends, Hailey and Carli, came to model for both of our magazines. Hailey was my model, and I instructed her to bring 3 different sports bras and sneakers to change throughout the shoot. She changed three times and I was able to take some amazing shots. I am almost positive I got the perfect cover shot! I also was able to take pictures of Hailey demonstrating workout moves which I plan on using for my article. Brooke and I were very lucky because Brooke's dad has professional photo equipment and a photo studio, which he let us use. I cannot wait to see how the pictures look on the big screen and I am waiting anxiously for Brooke to send them to me. I will post the pictures as soon as possible in my next post but here is a sneak peak for now!

Critiques

Hello!

This past week in class my teacher, Mrs. Marchetti, assigned us into groups of four to critique each others ideas about our projects. I was able to show my classmates my blog and explain to them what I had in mind for my magazine. I started off explaining my title Better You to my group and how it related to the genre Brooke and I chose, the title of my magazine was liked by my entire group! I was thrilled that the title was interpreted exactly how Brooke and I wanted it to be. I began expressing my concern for not not being able to decide on what I should do for my magazine cover, my classmate Camila showed me the site issuu.com (Check it out! It is amazing inspiration when designing). This site gave me so many ideas for my cover page and I cannot wait to make my ideas a reality. I decided I want my cover to be on a white back drop, and my model, Hailey, would be wearing a colored sports bra to add a pop of color. My group also was able to help me come up with an idea for my article topic, they helped me brainstorm the idea of having my article be a demonstration of a quick workout that a person could do in a short time with no gym equipment... I loved it! I am going to have Hailey do basic workout moves in my photoshoot such as squats, lunges, mountain climbers, and planks. This way I will have pictures for my article and I will later come up with a workout plan for my magazine article. I am so happy to finally say that Brooke and I will finally be having our photoshoot for our magazine tomorrow! Come back tomorrow to see how it went!
